Sask Cup Challenge Recap

The weekend started off a little uncertain with two close loses on Friday against the Swift Current Broncos (3-1) and The Saskatoon Titans (6-5). However, the team came back Saturday ready to go and won 4-0 against a Calgary team, The CBHA Rangers, and a 4-1 win against Saskatoon Mission, who they previously tied in league play. Their round robin ended in a 3 way tie for second place where the NW Stars game out ahead after calculations were done. Sunday brought the semi-finals. It was a close back and forth game against Saskatoon Kodiaks but the North West Stars won 6-5 and were off to the A finals. They played Warman who currently sit second in their league division. After the first period the game was tied 1-1 where it remained until the last 7 minutes of the third period. Warman scored making it 2-1. Although the Stars had chances, they ran out of gas. A final goal by Warman with 7 seconds left put the seal on the game for Warman. Although the North West Stars lost in the A finals 3-1, they had an awesome tournament weekend and now look forward to playing some of these teams again in the second half of their league. They have two home games this weekend, so come out and cheer on our Stars.
